I like you. I like you a lot. We’ve only known each other for a a year, but you’ve already treated me like a member of the big family. I’m really touched.
When I just got here, I compiled a list of things about Canada I didn’t know about. I missed those things when I was back in Indonesia for a month after being here for 4.5 months. But when I’m back here in your land, I miss Indonesian food constantly. If I could have one wish, I would wish for at least one authentic Indonesian restaurant here in in Waterloo so that I could go there when I’m feeling homesick.
A lot has changed since I wrote the abovementioned list. Your oddities don’t strike me as odd anymore. I’ve been able to incorporate the Canadian “eh?” into my daily conversation, and I’ve also been able to tolerate your lower temperature better. Now I can stand not to wear my sweatshirt when the temperature is in the mid- to high-teens. I hope you are proud of me. I’m not so crazy about your higher temperature, though. 38°C in Spring was not cool! But I know it wasn’t your fault.
I’m married to one of your men now. He’s a lovely man; sweet, caring, and gentle. Like most Canadians, he likes maple syrup, but he still can’t get me to try it even though I’ve been here for a year. Not that I’m complaining. I really hope you won’t take this personally, but maple syrup scares me. I don’t know why. It just does. I’m sorry.
Finally, I just want to wish you a happy birthday. My husband and I are going to go to one of your birthday celebrations today. I enjoyed last year’s celebration, and I’m sure I’ll enjoy this year’s just as much, if not more. Please keep being friendly, open-minded, and beautiful. Those are the things that I like the most about you.
Sincerely yours,
Firda

I like, love, Canada too. Maybe one day I’ll move to Vancouver. Great post. :)
You haven’t tried maple syrup? What do you put on pancakes then?
Happy Canada Day!
Oh, just try the maple syrup. Soooo good. Have it over toast. I don’t like pancakes either, but over toast, it’s not bad.
Have fun!

been in canada a year, eh? i’m curious about canada. curious about how ones goes about imigrating to canada. my mother is seriously considering moving to canada, and i’m seriously considering following her, after my contract is up.
can you suggest any pertinent links or advice? where’d you move to canada from? any help is appreciated.
no wonder there were canadian flags, stalls and celebrations all over federation square, right in the middle of melbourne city.
happy national day :)
I agree with yasher - I am very interested about Canada and moving there, too. I want to go to college there (I live in Minnesota now), and am researching Canada and hoping that one day I will be there :)
I was going to suggest pancakes but seeing as you don’t like it. Maybe have the boy take you out in the winter and have it on snow…yes they do that and yes, it’s delish :)
Maybe he should introduce you to maple fudge? Has he taken you to Niagara on the Lake? They have THE best fudge around - that is, if you like fudge. If you have the maple, you will get an idea of what maple syrup is about. There is also maple butter which is grand on toast but I have a hard time stopping, lol.
Glad to hear you like Canada…it’s a swell place :)
In reality I’m not a big fan of real maple syrup. I find it too sweet. I like the fake stuff like Aunt Jermima (or whatever it’s called). I know it’s probably worse for you but I can’t help it.
Beka, elo dah married? kok gak ngasih kabar ke milist nya 93?
Jadi ketinggalan berita deh gue :)
Semoga bahagia terus ya Bek.. sukses terus girl! :)
