Are You Nerdy Enough For This?

Red Dragonfly

I feel like watching an indie movie with a lighthearted but original story along the line of Saint Ralph, Dear Frankie, or Millions (well, maybe Millions is not exactly indie) but people don’t seem to make movies like that anymore. Or maybe I just don’t know that they are around because our favourite indie cinema is no longer a 15-minute drive away from where we live. Sad llama. Princess Cinemas, I miss you! Someday we’ll move back to Waterloo. Someday.

Anyway, I didn’t find anything particularly funny today but I did find Abandonia, which is an archive of classic DOS games. Do yourself a favour. Download and install DOSBox on your machine and then search for your favourite games from the late 80s/early 90s on Abandonia to play. Guaranteed at least one hour of fun. I found a bunch of games my brothers and I used to play (Digger, Crazy Cars, Paratroopers, Alley Cat and so on and so on). Some were still somewhat engaging, some I could only play for a couple of minutes before I got bored out of my skull. Crappy graphics and bad sound effects are what these games are all about, but eh, they’re free for the taking! If you need instructions to figure out how to play the games on the DOSBox, it can be found in the forum.

If you are one of those people who enjoy playing those stupid DOS games, you’d be the kind of person who would appreciate Weezer 8-Bit. It’s basically a Weezer tribute album “created using original videogame hardware running home-brew software, and vary radically in style, from minimal ‘one man and his Game Boy’ compositions to 8-bit inspired full band performances.” Need I say more?

I’d thought of a punchline for this post but couldn’t remember it anymore. Oh well. Who needs a punchline anyway.

  • They don't but you haven't seen Late Night Shopping, Jimmy Grimble yet or Virtual Sexuality for that matter I can heartily recommend them. And Holes if you haven't been there either.
