What is a linux live cd?

Firda  •  Nov 10  •  10:34 AM

Linux Live CD is a bootable CD containing Linux operating system. It runs Linux directly from CD-ROM without installing. Or so I’ve been told.

Oh, cool!

A bit like Knoppix, and..errr.… Gnoppix, then?

Firda  •  Nov 10  •  10:58 PM

I think so. You can also make one yourself, did you know?

Wow, cool link to the LJ article, hadn’t seen that.

In my own experience, Morphix is the best Linux live cd.

I just went to the knoppix website. These patent and copyright laws are getting out of hand. The main beneficiaries are patent and copyright lawyers who will get rich from all the lawsuits.

I have a computer that is running Mandrake Linux. The version of Linux is about two years old and the computer is about six years old. It works fine and if I have time, I will install an up to date version of Mandrake Linux (version 9.2 as opposed to 8.1 for those who care).

Installing Mandrake Linux is very easy, maybe even easier than Windows. There is no end of software that comes with it, more than I will ever use. I understand why Microsoft is worried about Linux. My unsupported, but perfectly legal, new version of Linux cost me under $10. I could have downloaded it for free, but I’m on the lazy side.

I will probably always use Windows because my friends use MSN Messenger and won’t change even though it works very poorly in Europe where one of them lives.

I wish Knoppix good luck and the rest of the linux distributions good luck as well. I also hope that you enjoy using your Linux Live CD when you get it.

be careful about mdk9.2, it has an issue with lg cd-roms… it issues the command “flush_cashe” or something or other and it renders the cd-rom useless. you then inturn have to upgrade your cd-roms bios to new firmware to regain use of your cd-rom.… i dont know if the mdk people have corrected this problem (only LG made cd-roms) as of yet, i got (mdk9.1 user) my warning email from mdk about this problem, so i didnt run into the trouble… i am writing this responce directly through the use of Knoppic live cd.….it’s pretty kewl, you can even save your settings via floppy if you want to.… have fun
