Weekend Design Project

Friday  •  08:28 PM  •  186 words

Have nothing to do this weekend? Feel like revamping your weblog but not feel too motivated? Here’s a fun and easy design project you can do:

1. Open your graphic editor. Create an image. It may be a picture of your pretty face/pet/plant/s.o./whatever or a logo. The image dimension must be 150×150 pixels. Save the image as pic.jpg.

2. Create another image. Use white as the background colour. Type your weblog title on it using a pretty font or two. Experiment with the composition. Be creative. Don’t be boring. The image dimension must be 150×400 pixels 400×150 pixels. Save the image as title.gif.

3. Pick 4 complementing colours that go with the images created in Step 1 and 2. Two of them must be dark colours and the rest must be light colours. No white, please. I’d suggest you use EasyRGB or Colormatch to pick the colours. Don’t forget to write down the hex codes (e.g. #ffc0c0).

4. Come back here on Sunday for a nice treat.

Aren’t you excited? ;) Feel free to spread the word about the project. The more people joining, the merrier!

I think I have an idea of what you’ve got up your sleeve, Firda, and it sounds wicked cool. As a matter of trivia I’m on the ninth iteration of a new design for Swirlee. Nine is too many. I’m going crazy. Were I not so insistent on having a site designed by me, I’d have bought a design from you a month ago. (That’s supposed to be a compliment, but I’m not sure if it came out that way.)

Looking forward to the end result. I’ve now got to decide *which* picture of the cats looks the cutest :-)

Great idea! GetPixel is a great little program, too — you can get it at download.com. I can’t wait to see what you’re up to!

Hmm. Seeing as how I suffer from chronic redesignitis, and just don’t have time to do an autum iteration of my site right now, I think I’ll give this a try! :-) Especially seeing as how my layouts come from you, anyway.

Now, where’s that acorn picture . . . .

Can’t wait - I’ll try to be here! I already made my graphics.

Donna  •  Aug 31  •  09:20 AM

I’m in, Firda - I made my graphics yesterday, and though I love your 3-column grey template for my knit blog, perhpas this would be even more swell.

It ’s Sunday now, right? :-)
